Selena Gomez is done being a “Spring Breaker” and now she’s getting ready to film her next movie. In an online video Q&A with her fans, she opened up about her edgier movie roles, including her next film with Ethan Hawke.

“I’m doing another movie called ‘The Getaway’ with Ethan Hawke. It’s really, really exciting,” she shared. “I go to Bulgaria and then I start filming. It’s more of an action movie, which is also different. So we’re doing that and then hopefully another movie, but that hasn’t really been confirmed yet. Then I’ll start working on my fourth album, which will be the best album I’ll ever do! But I’m just kind of halting music for a bit.”
She added that she’s “been really focused on more acting. For me it’s been fun to take risks and do things that are completely different. To be honest maybe some of you guys might not be comfortable with it. … I’m still the same person. Things that challenge me really excite me.”

That focus includes the forthcoming Eli Roth thriller, “Aftershock,” and the aforementioned “Spring Breakers.” Gomez had only praise for that film’s director, Harmony Korine (“Kids”). “He is such a brilliant director; he is so smart. He gave us direction but half the time he let us do our thing,” she said. “He gave me this freedom, but he allowed me to prove myself. He’s so great.”

In addition to all the big-screen business, the actress and singer will also get the small-screen treatment on “Glee.” According to E! News, in the prom episode, shot last week, Lea Michele reportedly sings Selena’s track “Love You Like a Love Song.” According to sources, the powerhouse vocalist put out “a really powerful performance” of Gomez’s song.

Selena Gomez received a very heartfelt thank you from the L.A. Children’s Hospital recently. The thank you was based on a visit Selena made to a young progeria patient at the hospital.

According to a report from LA Late News, Selena visited Hana Hwang back in December. Hwang suffers from progeria—a disease that swiftly speeds along the aging process and causes the very young to literally die of old age.

Following the visit from the former Wizards of Waverly Place star and girlfriend of Justin Bieber, Hwang made a video to thank Selena, and the recognition her followers have brought to Hwang and the disease is phenomenal. More than 90,000 people have seen the video on YouTube. The hospital thought it’s only proper to thank Selena Gomez for her kindness, the way Hwang did in the video.

How wonderful that the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital took the time to thank Selena Gomez for her efforts in visiting this young progeria patient, and for the awareness her celebrity status raised about the disease. Selena seemed genuinely moved by this young girl’s suffering, and is no doubt happy to learn that her visit made that kind of difference in her life.

Pop princess Selena Gomez gave her first concert in Peru on Thursday at Jockey Club in Lima, where thousands of young Peruvian people were dazzled by her songs.
The American singer kicked off her performance about 21:00 hours (02:00 GMT) with “A Year Without Rain,” her second studio album.

After singing “Hit The Lights,” Gomez greeted the Peruvian young audience, “Hello Lima, Peru. This is the first time I’m here, thanks for coming.”

In contrast to other pop singers, Selena Gomez just had two costume changes. She wore a blue low-cut dress at the beginning of the concert and then she changed her outfit to perform her slow songs.

Selena Gomez is well known for performing in Disney Channel sitcoms like “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place” and in movies such as “Another Cinderella Story,” “Monte Carlo” and “Ramona and Beezus.”

Selena Gomez has a true fan in yet another celebrity–namely her friend and soon-to-be co-star Vanessa Hudgens. The girls will work together on the upcoming film Spring Breakers, and Vanessa is thrilled to be working with Selena.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, working with Selena is one of the high points for Vanessa of doing the film.
“I adore Selena and I am just so excited to work with her on Spring Breakers,” Vanessa says. “We both have been so busy lately that working together on this film will give us time to catch up and just have fun. It will be more like fun than work.”

It must be incredibly exciting for Selena to realize that one of her peers is a fan of her work and can’t wait to work with her. That’s one of the most meaningful compliments any artist—actor, musician, writer—can receive. Being lauded by one’s peers is indeed an honor.
Spring Breakers will be a far cry from the kind of work Selena Gomez is accustomed to doing. A far cry from the wholesome roles she played for the Disney Channel–like Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place, this film will find Selena partying and behaving way outside of her actual character.

Given this kind of enormous change, it will no doubt be comforting for Selena to have Vanessa Hudgens on set with her. The friendship and respect the two girls share will provide each of them with that extra boost of confidence so often needed in the acting world.

It will be exciting to see these two young ladies together when Spring Breakers premieres.

Selena Gomez is nothing if not kindhearted and generous. She recently sent her love to a little girl who is battling cancer. The way the 5-year-old caught the attention of Justin Bieber’s girlfriend is heartbreaking.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, little Sophia Pasquarella is fighting leukemia. An avid fan of the former Wizards of Waverly Place star, she even loves singing Selena’s songs. In fact, she was recently recorded singing Who Says–and a family member posted the video on Twitter.

The video of Sophia’s song made its way to Selena via Twitter. The singer was all too happy to send her a personal reply.

“Sophia you’re adorable,” Selena Gomez wrote.

Known for her compassion, it’s common for Selena to reach out to her young fans–especially those battling life threatening diseases like Sophia. Now it’s reported that Sophia’s next goal is to actually meet Selena Gomez in person.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Selena went out of her way to make a sick fan’s dream come true. She recently met with a young girl who suffers from progeria–a disease that makes the body age in rapid succession. Sufferers actually die of ‘old age’ while they’re still very young.

So you think Selena Gomez will make little Sophia Pasquarella’s dream come true? It’s uncertain if the little girl is battling terminal cancer or if her prognosis is a good one. But that wouldn’t matter at all to Selena.

It likely wouldn’t surprise most of Selena’s fans to learn in the very near future that she has somehow arranged to meet with little Sophia.

Selena Gomez stepped out revealing her new colorful hair streaked with bright pink, violet and blue, which looked great in her brunette locks. Will her boyfriend Justin Bieber follow her new hairstyle with something colorful himself? He’s had a few fashion missteps recently (um, knee socks anyone?). Would this add to his fashion faux pas, or be something fashionable?

The Love You Like a Love Song singer debuted her new, colorful hairdo late last week while promoting her Mexico City leg of her We Own the Night Tour. The colors in Selena Gomez’s hair were a bit reminiscent of My Little Pony, but considering her fans are mostly tweens, then they will recognize that and probably love it immediately. There are probably plenty of 10-year-old little girls begging their parents for colorful streaks this weekend.

One thing seems certain, young girls everywhere are likely to follow the singer’s lead and start getting streaks in their hair. Now, as to whether Justin Bieber will do it, who knows? If he did, it would certainly be an interesting twist on his always famous hair. If he did get some bright streaks, would young boys follow the trend in addition to young girls? It could certainly be a boon for hair stylists everywhere.

Selena Gomez has had her hands full lately. Despite supporting her mother during a tragic miscarriage and dodging a violent, mentally ill stalker, Selena still managed to muscle through for her headlining spot at MTV’s New Year’s Eve party and a date with the ridiculously popular boy with the Jesus tattoo, Justin Bieber. And that was just in December!

It looks like Selena will also be keeping busy throughout the course of 2012, but not in the studio. In a recent interview, Gomez said that she’d be takign a break from music to focus on her acting, which is good news for fans of her work in Wizards of Waverly place and Monte Carlo. As she and her fans grow older so will her subject matter.

Gomez is already scheduled to appear on the sets of two films in 2012 called Hot Mess and Spring Breakers. Hot Mess is a comedy about four young women destined to become the wrecks the movie was named after. Spring Breakers is a darker-edged film about a group of college kids who rob a bank to pay for spring break and then go to jail where they get wrapped up with a drug dealer. Selena’s definitely growing up. When she returns to music we might see her move into new directions as well. Maybe her more mature work will mellow the feisty energy of The Scene and push her into BFF Taylor Swift’s Country music territory where she could guest star on 2012 Jason Aldean tour dates and join in his country rap. Or maybe not…
